Competition for churches is a bit different than for businesses and even ministries. I find that there is little gained from searching other church’s websites for additional keywords if you are just looking to promote your church in the search engines. You should be able to come up with all the keywords you need on your list by listing your church’s focuses and using your denomination and the words “church” and “churches”.
So, if you are just looking to make sure your church is visible as possible in the search engines for people searching for a church, then you can sit this task out.
If, on the other hand, you have ministries at your church and are also using SEO to promote them, then there is value in looking at your competition. Don’t worry about looking for “church” related keywords. Instead, you should focus your competition research on the ministries. In that case you may also want to check out the additional information for local ministries and / or for national ministries.
